“The GPST is a powerful partnership that promises to transform the way we deliver accessible, seamless, efficient, resilient and sustainable mobility services and infrastructure via all modes”
Praised the IRU’s latest initiative to create a Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport (GPST) and expressed full support for the IRU-UN Global Compact partnership in developing this initiative (addressing IRU General Assembly, Geneva, 7 November 2015)
Welcomed the creation of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport (GPST) and acknowledged “the special contribution that it can make to bring business and industry closer to the sustainable urban mobility agenda” and that UN-Habitat “looks forward to working with the IRU in taking this partnership forward”.
“The recently announced strategy “One Belt, One Road” will provide new infrastructure to improve connectivity domestically, and to integrate domestic markets into global market. It will involve 60 countries, including developing countries and require policy coordination and financial integration. The GPST, which unites all modes of transport, is the timely and important initiative, which is expected to contribute to the implementation of the above-mentioned new governmental strategy”.
“The GPST is among the very few initiatives that brings together the private sector to engage on specific issues related to transport and the Post 2015 Agenda – now the 2030 Agenda. It is encouraging to see this level of engagement and I congratulate the IRU and the UN Global Compact for this effort”. “The GPST recognised early that to drive the sustainable transport agenda, it was necessary that non-state actors take the lead – that business take the lead”.
“If we want to be ambitious, it is important that we convince businesses to join in efforts – as did the GPST, and we are looking forward to working togehter.” (High-Level Event on Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport and Post-2015 Development Agenda jointly organised by the UN Global Compact, UN Habitat, ICC and IRU on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly on 26 September 2015).
