GPST wins support in China

IRU delegation led by Mr Igor Runov, IRU Under Secretary General, participated in the seminar organised by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in China, and informed about the latest UN Resolutions on multimodal transport corridors and creation of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Transport (GPST). During brief visit to Beijing IRU Delegation also participated and made presentations at special events organized by the Development Research Center of the State Council of China, the Academy of Transportation Sciences of the Ministry of Transport and the Confederation of Chinese Enterprises focusing on the new windows of opportunities and interconnections between the recently announced One Belt – One Road strategy, recent UN historic decisions in transport-related area, including creation of the GPST by the IRU and the UN Global Compact. A number of specific projects and initiatives were discussed in the area of trade and transport facilitation, soft infrastructure development, training and education, which will be followed in the coming months by additional exchange of data and development of appropriate working plans and cooperation agreements.
