IRU highlights role of sustainable transport at UN Forum
IRU underlined the role of transport in implementing the Global Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Business Forum held during the UN High-Level Political Forum in New York this week.
Igor Runov, who leads IRU’s work with the United Nations in New York, addressed over 300 participants on the role of multimodal transport corridors in promoting regional connectivity, economic integration and sustainable development across Eurasia, as well as the need to revitalise the Silk Road through simple and transparent border-crossing procedures, regulations and new technologies such as modern telecom systems and sophisticated roadside infrastructure.
During the panel on partnerships, co-organised by IRU and the United Nations Foundation, IRU’s Romanian member, ARTRI, presented its new initiative to create an International Arbitration Court for Transport. This initiative has already gained support from a number of transport associations in Europe and Asia as an important legal instrument to protect the commercial interests of transport operators.
